IT’S ENERGY and ABUNDANCE have SUSTAINED WAASIKRA from IMMEMORIAL. IT SINGS to our COMMUNITY and TRANSFORMS ALL WHO LISTEN.
Teejop means Four Lakes. It’s the region currently known as Madison, Wisconsin, and its nearby surrounding communities. Many peoples––especially Hooçak (Ho-Chunk)––have loved and cared for this special place since beyond memory. The Teejop Community History Project hopes to encourage and support ongoing learning about past and present Indigenous relationships, perspectives, and experiences with the Four Lakes. And we seek to inspire personal explorations of our collective connections, sensitivity, and responsibility to land, water, and community. Through art and creative, place-based experiential learning, we invite you to listen carefully to this land as a living being.
